Rhododendron yedoense v. poukhanense

Description with 18 photos. Photo: Finn Bertelsen. A low, densely branched, evergreen shrub. Hardy. Young shoots clad with more or less appressed, flat, colourless later brownish bristles. This strigose hairtype is repeated on stalks, leaves, calyx and ovary. Petiole brownish, to 8 mm. Leaf blade lancet, elliptical or narrow obovate, chartaceous, to 30 mm. Leaf apex acute to acute-obtuse, with mucro. Leaf base cuneate to acute. Leaf adaxial side scattered strigose, dark green. Leaf abaxial side scattered strigose, light green. Inflorescence with 2 (3) flowers. Pedicel densely strigose, c. 6-7 mm. Calyx with 5 narrowly ovate, densely strigose lobes, 5-7 mm. Corolla with 5 lobes, slightly zygomorphic, open funnel-shaped, light reddish or bluish purple, crimson spotted, to c. 60 mm wide, c. 25 mm deep (long). Ovary densely strigose, with 5 loculi, 3-4 mm. Stamens 10, unequal in length. Filaments on lower halves finely hairy-glandular hairy, white. Anthers brownish black. Style glabrous, bent upwards, longer than stamens, reddish with a bullate, golden-red stigma, 1.5 mm. Capsule densely strigose, c. 4 mm. Seeds unknown. Native habitat: Korea.
