Rhododendron brachycarpum var. tigerstedtii

This species has a round and compact growth. Very hardy with regard to frost. Branchlets whitish tomentose on new growth. Vegetative buds pointed. Leaves oblong elliptic to oblong obovate, flat or arched, leathery glabrous, with yellow or yellowish petioles and midribs. Leaf lower side with a thin plastered indumentum of tiny, radiate, 3 – 4 winged hairs, not unlike dragonfly wings. With or without mucron. Pedicel glandular close to calyx. Corolla funnel-shaped, with 5 lobes, white with yellow-green blotch and undulating margins. Ovary pubescent with scattered glands. Stamens 10, of unequal lengths, proximally pubescent. Style glabrous, with upturning, yellowish, disc-shaped, swollen stigma. Capsule about 20 mm long, glandular with scattered, finely hairy, warty excrescences. Seeds 2.5 – 2.9 mm long, with well-developed floating sacs in both ends. Occurrence: (the species) Japan, Korea according to treeflower.la.coocan.jp.
